Netflix has dropped the first teaser for the second season of Dear White People revealing the show’s return is just around the corner.
Dear White People – Vol. 2 premieres Friday, May 4th and looks to delve into more hot button topics. Cultural appropriation, racist bots, black lesbians, and fake news are just some of the issues shown in the trailer.
The majority of the main cast looks to be back, along with new additions like Lena Waithe for another 10 episodes. There aren’t many TV series based on movies that make a smooth transition over to the small screen, but I felt Dear White People was largely successful in its first season.
The longer length gave the creative team more time to flesh out the supporting cast and add more depth to the characters. One of the better things they did was showing the same story from multiple perspectives, revealing new truths along the way. With the first season already covering the major incident from the film thoroughly, I’m looking forward to the new material Vol. 2 is set to deliver.
