Jurnee Smollett-Bell Lands Lead Role in HBO’s Lovecraft Country

One of the more intriguing series HBO has in development is Lovecraft Country and the show has just secured its female lead. Jurnee Smollett-Bell has joined the drama series in the lead role of Letitia Dandridge, who embarks on a road trip with friend Atticus Black and his Uncle George in 1950s Jim Crow America.  The trio are searching for Atticus’ missing father and must not only contend with racist horrors, but Lovecraftian horror as well.

The straight to series drama is based on the novel of the same name, with Misha Green set as executive producer and writer. This will be a reunion for Green and Smollett-Bell as the pair previously worked on Underground together.

Period pieces aren’t usually my thing, but the talent involved and unique concept has definitely put Lovecraft Country on my radar of shows to watch.
