Videogame adaptations haven’t had the best success, but one recent winner has been the animated Castlevania series on Netflix. Now Castlevania executive producer, Adi Shankar, is bringing another popular game series to the small screen.
Speaking with IGN, Shankar confirmed he is working on an animated series adaptation of Devil May Cry. No timetable for release or platform was revealed, but Shankar did reveal the Devil May Cry series will exist in a “bootleg multiverse” that includes Castlevania. Whether that means there will be cross-overs between the two shows or simply that they will share a similar tone/style is unknown.
The tremendous success of Castlevania was instrumental in making the DMC series a reality. With Netflix quickly renewing Castlevania for a third season, it wouldn’t surprise me if it becomes the eventual home for this new adaptation. The latest game in the series, Devil May Cry 5 is set for a March 8, 2019 release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
