Motherland: Fort Salem Mixes Magic With The Military In New Freeform Series

There have been many TV shows that feature witches, but Freeform’s new series Motherland: Fort Salem is unlike anything that has come before it.

Picked up for a 10 episode run, Motherland: Fort Salem  “is set in an alternate, present-day America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country. ”

The one hour drama tracks three young women as they go from basic training in combat magic to early deployment on the front lines of war. It stars Taylor Hickson, Jessica Sutton, Amalia Holm, and Demetria McKinney. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Kevin Messick serve as executive producers with the series written and created by Eliot Laurence.

Magic in the military is certainly an interesting premise and I applaud an original idea being green-lit. The tone of the show will ultimately decide how much I buy into the series, but the first teaser released by Freeform looks intense.  Check it out below.
