As the Mortal Kombat reboot film gears up for release in 2021, more casting announcements have been made official. First there was Sub-Zero, and now Liu Kang, Raiden, Jax, and Mileena have been revealed.
Ludi Lin steps into the role of franchise star Liu Kang. Lin was most recently seen in Black Mirror this past season, coincidentally portraying a videogame character. He has the look, although a bit on the young side and a legit background in martial arts which can only be beneficial.
Tadanobu Asano portrays mythical God of Thunder Raiden. Mehcad Brooks of Supergirl fame has been cast as Special Forces commander Jax and Sisi Stringer is fanged-assassin and fan favorite Mileena.
Videogames have a terrible track record being adapted for the big screen, but the original Mortal Kombat film was one of the few that was actually good. I have high hopes for this new version with James Wan producing and the creative forces promising an R-rated action movie.
They seem to understand what fans enjoy about the series and look to deliver, including putting fatalities in the film. Now I just really need to hear about the casting of Scorpion, who no doubt has to be in the movie.
