NBC prepares to say farewell to another long-running sitcom with the news that Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be coming to an end.
Season 8 of the comedy will be the last and will bring Brooklyn Nine-Nine to a total of 153 episodes. Fans of the show will have to continue waiting to say goodbye to the series, as the final season has been pushed to the 2021-22 TV season, meaning the earliest it might air would be September of this year.
The extended wait is due to a number of factors, as the creators wrestled with crafting a comedic cop show while America was dealing with protests against police violence following the murder of George Floyd. The early scripts for Season 8 were scrapped with the writers looking for a new approach. The coronavirus pandemic also led to a delay in production, as everyone in the TV industry grappled with how to return to work safely.
As someone who has been a big fan of the show, I’m confident they will reach a satisfying conclusion in the final ten episodes. Eight seasons is a great run for any series, and considering Brooklyn Nine-Nine was canceled by Fox before NBC saved it, only makes the long run even more special.
