The TV adaptation of Philip Pullman’s fantasy series His Dark Materials has been in development for years. While no release date is set, the BBC has revealed a teaser of what to expect when it finally premiers.
The first thing that stands out is the talented cast. Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy, Clarke Peters, and Lin-Manuel Miranda all get their names in the spotlight. His Dark Materials is an eight episode series co-produced by the BBC and HBO. Already picked up for a second season before airing, His Dark Materials is a big budget production for the BBC. Check out a synopsis below.
“The first season of His Dark Materials follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Lyra’s search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will. Together they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living—and the dead— in their hands.”
I can’t say I have read the source material or even watched the film The Golden Compass, which is based on the first novel in the series. I know the books are highly acclaimed and the cast alone has me intrigued. Dafne Keen really impressed me with her work in Logan and I look forward to seeing her in another project. Check out the teaser below.
