Films migrating over to TV isn’t always a smooth transition. FX has been able to pull it off with What We Do in the Shadows, which has just been renewed for a second season.
The vampire comedy series based on the 2014 film of the same name may have a new group of characters and actors, but it retains much of the magic that made the movie so enjoyable. No doubt having Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi serve as EPs on the series helps. The mockumentary format and low budget effects work well in the move over to TV as well.
Few details were given about Season 2, other than it will debut in 2020. I was somewhat nervous about how What We Do in the Shadows would function as a show, but the cast and creative team assembled has delivered one of my favorite new shows this year.
