Westworld is without a doubt one of the biggest and most ambitious shows on HBO currently. As Season 3 prepares to come to a close, HBO has renewed the series for a fourth season.
The news arrives ahead of the Season 3 finale on Sunday, May 3. No timetable was given as to when Season 4 might air, but hopefully the wait won’t be as long as the break between Seasons 2 and 3. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will continue as co-showrunners for Season 4, although future projects from the creative duo will wind up on Amazon due to a talent deal signed last year.
Westworld returning isn’t too surprising. The ratings might have declined from previous years and the show is expensive, but it still garners a lot of attention for the premium network and features a stacked cast. I don’t foresee the show being canceled prematurely and expect HBO to allow the creators to reach a conclusion, whether that is in two or three more seasons.
