After Crazy Rich Asians proved to be a big box-office success, Warner Bros. is gearing up for a sequel.
The roadmap to future films was already in place before the film’s release with Kevin Kwan’s book trilogy, with Crazy Rich Asians being the first book adapted for the big screen. China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems are the next two books in the series.
While development is only in the early stages, director Jon M. Chu looks to return with stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh having options for the sequel.
After scoring over $25 million to take the #1 spot in its opening weekend, Crazy Rich Asians is projected to come out on top for a second consecutive week. With the film’s modest budget and crazy returns I would expect both China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems to make their way to the big screen in the future.
