Netflix may have parted ways with its Marvel series, but it still has a number of comic book properties lined up. Umbrella Academy just premiered this month, Mark Millar has a whole slate of projects, and The Old Guard is being adapted as a feature film.
Based on the Image comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, The Old Guard will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and star Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne. Check out a synopsis of the comic below.
“The Old Guard tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.”
Theron will play immortal warrior Andronika the Scythian, an Amazon warrior from ancient Greece while Layne will play Nile, a U.S. Marine and newly discovered immortal.
I had not heard of the comic book series before the news broke, but the premise sounds really good. The talent attached only serves to increase my interest in the project.
