Warner Bros. Sets Release Date For ‘Akira’ Film Adaptation

The road to bring Akira to the big screen has been a long one, but has now moved one step closer to becoming a reality.

Warner Bros. has set the release date for its live-action adaptation of the classic anime for May 21, 2021. Taika Waititi is signed on as director and Leonardo DiCaprio is producing. The premise of the movie can be read below.

“A secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psychic psychopath that only two teenagers and a group of psychics can stop.”

Film release dates change all the time, but currently Akira shares the same date as John Wick: Chapter 4. I’ve heard about this project for a number of years, so I’ll really believe it is happening once I see some footage.
