The CW Picks Up Kung Fu Reboot Series

Martial arts TV shows have made a bit of a comeback recently with series like Into the Badlands, Wu Assassins, and Warrior. Now The CW is investing in the genre with the series order of Kung Fu.

The new drama is a re-imagining of the popular series Kung Fu that aired in the 70s and starred David Carradine. This version is set in present day and stars Olivia Liang in a gender flip of the format. Check out the official synopsis below.

“A quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justiceā€¦all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her.”

In addition to Liang, Kung Fu also stars Kheng Hua Tan, Shannon Dang, Jon Prasida, Eddie Liu, Gavin Stenhouse, Gwendoline Yeo and Tzi Ma.

I’m glad this show was one of the pilots that made it to series. With most of the other martial arts shows I watch either canceled or coming to a close, it’s nice to have something on the horizon to look forward to.
