Disney continues to mine existing IP for its upcoming streaming service. The company is set to adapt beloved baseball film The Sandlot as a TV series.
The Sandlot series is in early development, but does have the film’s original director and co-writer David Mickey Evans onboard to write and executive produce. The TV series is set to jump in time, taking place in 1984 where the original cast are now adults and have kids of their own.
Growing up The Sandlot was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I am somewhat surprised to see a show in development for Disney+, but there is a lot of nostalgia associated with the movie and I’m sure Disney wants to tap into that for its streaming service. Plus it falls into the family friendly category that Disney+ is built around.
