Comic ‘The Magic Order’ Heads to Netflix For Series Adaptation

The partnership between Netflix and Mark Millar continues to grow. The comic book writer already has two series and three films in development for the company, and has just added another show with The Magic Order.

No time frame was announced for the series debut, but it has James Wan serving as executive producer and attached to direct the pilot episode. Lindsey Beer joins him as EP, in addition to being writer/showrunner. A synopsis of the comic book can be read below.

“In The Magic Order, five families of magicians sworn to protect our world must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness — unless the darkness gets them first.”

When I first read about Netflix working with Mark Millar to publish the comic, I thought it sounded like a good idea for a show. I haven’t read The Magic Order, but have enjoyed adaptations of Millar’s previous work like Wanted, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman. He has a number of projects in rotation, so it might be a while before The Magic Order comes to fruition.  The TV adaptation of Jupiter’s Legacy has started casting, likely to become the first Millar project to arrive on the streaming platform.
