‘The Lovebirds’ Shifts From Theaters To Netflix

With the coronavirus pandemic shutting down movie theaters, The Lovebirds starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani becomes the latest film to shift to a new platform.

Paramount has partnered with Netflix to bring the comedy to the streaming platform at a currently unspecified date. Originally set to release April 3 in theaters, the film joins many others in the pursuit of finding an audience as the film industry is effectively on pause for the foreseeable future. Recent movies like Emma, The Hunt, and Bloodshot have or will find their way to VOD sooner than normal, while The Lovebirds bypasses theaters and VOD entirely to find a home on Netflix.

The movie centers on a couple who suddenly find themselves in a murder mystery and must clear their names. This move seems like a smart play by both parties as the The Lovebirds is the kind of film more likely to be a bigger hit on streaming than in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
