Swamp Thing Takes Root on The CW

With the coronavirus putting a pause on TV production, networks have to get creative with their fall schedules. The CW is recruiting Swamp Thing from DC Universe to help fill out its programming lineup later this year.

Swamp Thing aired last year on DC Universe and was canceled before the first season completed.  The series was plagued with issues throughout production, ultimately leading to its episode count being reduced from 13 to 10 episodes.

Yet, with the current climate the TV industry finds itself under Swamp Thing is able rise up again and and perhaps find a new audience. Any eyeballs the series is able to attract won’t lead to the show being resurrected from the dead. It would take a minor miracle and tremendous ratings for Warner Bros. to even consider bringing it back. However, it does serve as a cost-effective measure and a on-brand move for The CW to buy time until normal TV production can hopefully resume.

Swamp Thing becomes the latest DC Universe original series to find an outlet on other platforms. Doom Patrol is headed to HBO Max, while continuing to  air on DC Universe and the first season of Harley Quinn has started airing on Syfy.
